In a 2011 survey, fully 40 percent of California teachers in grades one through five said their students receive one hour or less of science instruction a week teaching science. Thirteen percent reported that they spend 30 minutes or less. Sixty-seven percent of teachers reported that limited time for science is a major challenge. Another 23 percent saw it as a moderate challenge.
