Whether or not to amend STEM to STEAM [1] in order to recognize the value of art has been a topic of much debate over the last few years, as has the low number of girls pursuing STEM studies [2]. Science [3]Fair, a new CD featuring songs by indie mainstays Mates of State [4] and Laura Veirs, [5] tries to use the first to combat the second. The songs aim to engage young girls [3]in math and science with fun, eay-to-sing-to lyrics about Marie Curie [6], Mary Leakey [7], and the joys of discovery. As a bonus for the grown-ups in her life, the mellow songs are a nice break from the more-traditional kids' fare. Read more about its genesis here [8].
