Across the nation, business, education and community leaders have created innovative programs to advance STEM literacy. Yet far too few of our students have access to programs like these.
In September 2010, the CTEq coalition took on the challenge to bring a handful of excellent, research-based STEM learning opportunities to 100 new sites within a year. Through the Igniting Learning initiative, they far exceeded the challenge and expanded high-quality STEM programs to 134 classroom and out-of-school sites that are reaching nearly 40,000 students nationwide.
These programs create enthusiasm and deepen the STEM knowledge and skills of both students and teachers, with a particular focus on engaging girls and students of color, who are underrepresented in STEM fields.
