Linda P. Rosen, Ph.D. 

Linda Rosen serves as the chief executive officer of Change the Equation.  Dr. Rosen has a proven track record in providing leadership to the business community in its mission to improve science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) learning. Her stellar career has focused on scaling up research-based best practices, working with states and localities to implement these practices to ensure long-term sustainability and success.


Previously, Dr. Rosen was the senior vice president for the National Alliance of Business where she worked with companies to articulate their STEM vision for the 2001 Reauthorization of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (No Child Left Behind). 


As Senior Advisor to U.S. Education Secretary Richard Riley, Dr. Rosen provided counsel on math and science, as well as STEM initiatives. She led the National Commission on Mathematics and Science Teaching for the 21st Century, also known as the John Glenn Commission.


Prior to joining the U.S. Department of Education, Dr. Rosen served as Executive Director of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, the largest professional association of teachers of math and teacher educators, and as the National Academy of Sciences’ Associate Executive Director of the Mathematical Sciences Education Board.


Early in her career, Dr. Rosen was a teacher, having taught mathematics from high school through graduate school.

Claus von Zastrow, Ph.D. 

Claus von Zastrow is the Chief Operating Officer and director of research for Change the Equation. Most recently, Dr. von Zastrow was executive director of the Learning First Alliance, a partnership of 16 major education associations that represent over ten million parents, educators and policymakers. At the Alliance, he worked with the executive directors and elected leaders of Alliance member organizations to facilitate collaboration at every level of the education system and promote the continual and long-term improvement at public education.

Prior to joining the Alliance, Dr. von Zastrow was at the Council for Basic Education where he published research on the impact of state and federal policy on school practice. He also served as a policy director at the National Alliance of Business, where he developed or managed policy initiatives to improve student achievement at all levels, promote universal access to higher education, and formulate sound workforce development strategies focused on lifelong learning.

Buffy DeBreaux-Watts

Buffy DeBreaux-Watts is a former educator with a strong commitment to supporting the future of the American educational system as an active catalyst for education reform.  DeBreaux-Watts worked most recently as Director of Business Development with an education management company; in teacher certification as a start-up staff member at ABCTE, and as the director of constituent relations at Partners in Education, where she oversaw membership recruitment and retention managing a membership network of 10,000 individuals and 35 state affiliates. In this role, she successfully managed corporate-education partnerships with major U.S. companies including Exxon-Mobil, Southwestern Bell, Booz Allen Hamilton and the Allstate Foundation.

De Breaux-Watts earned Bachelor’s degrees from Mary Baldwin College in Theatre Education and Public Relations.  Since then she has been a student at the Curry School of Education at the University of Virginia and holds a Master of Arts in Contemporary Communication from Notre Dame of Maryland University.

Christina Gordon

Christina Gordon is director of communications at Change the Equation where she specializes in organizational strategy and strategic planning, media training and speechwriting, and the implementation of big ideas. Prior to Change the Equation, Gordon served as director of strategic communications and stewardship with the Pro Bono Institute in Washington, D.C., where she built from scratch a multifaceted strategic communications department.  In addition to constructing the department, she oversaw the redesign of the organization’s website, launched the blog, increased media exposure, grew social media engagement, and, with the senior leadership team, drove the strategic planning process for the organization.   

Gordon previously served as director of communications for the National School Boards Association in Alexandria, Va., where she managed the strategic vision of the organization’s communications efforts, including public and media relations, social media, member relations, and electronic communications.  Additionally, she worked for Arlington Transportation Partners, integrating new media tools to raise awareness of the organization’s mission. She does pro bono consulting work for Women’s Policy Inc. (which supports the work of the Women’s Congressional Caucus), helping to shape their communications efforts and improve their digital engagement. She also taught seventh grade English in Montgomery County, Md. 

Marcella Vitulli

Marcella Vitulli serves as Project Specialist at Change the Equation, collaborating within the communications, member engagement, and research departments around major projects, data releases, strategy, and events. 

Prior to joining Change the Equation, Marcella researched commercial real estate dealings and market activity for translation into sales comparable reports, market and submarket analytics, and news articles as a Research Associate at CoStar Group Inc.

Before moving to Washington D.C., Marcella worked as Legislative Analyst at the Arizona Multihousing Associate in Phoenix.  There, she coordinated statewide PAC efforts including candidate endorsement, financial reporting, campaign finance regulation compliance, and generating fundraising revenue.  She also served in a liaison capacity for the association executive and board of directors.

Marcella graduated from Arizona State University in 2009 with a Bachelor's degree in Political Science, with emphasis on international studies.  She also received a Bachelor's degree in Italian, wherein she completed advanced language coursework and studied art history in Florence, Italy.
