Why is your company signing the Commitment to Excellence?

At DuPont, we believe that a quality education system strengthens our schools, communities and our businesses.  STEM education is a key component of a quality education.  The Commitment to Excellence is a pledge to ensure that all children in communities across the U.S. have access to high quality STEM learning opportunities.

What are your company’s specific PreK-12 STEM interests (e.g. computer programming, robotics, engineering, etc.)?

Ag Science, Science and science literacy and Engineering 

What PreK-12 STEM programs, particularly those contained in STEMworks, does your company support?

DuPont believes that it is critical to support teacher development as well as student enrichment.

DuPont supports programs at the various levels across education:

  • DuPont Challenge Essay Contest – In its 28th year – it receives over 9,000 entries from across US and Canada.  It focuses on 7th to 12th grades and recognizes both the student and the teacher
  • DuPont provides grants to Curriculum for Agricultural Science Education ( CASE) with the assistance of Future Farmers of America to help teachers attain certifications to teach the CASE curriculum.
  • DuPont Ag Ambassadors Program provides science inquiry teaching techniques for Ag teachers in a week long program.  From over 250 applicants each year, 50 are selected to participate in this train the trainer program.  Teachers are then required to teach what they have learned to other teachers spreading the impact of the program.
  • DuPont also participates in a variety of other programs such as science fairs, H
  • DuPont participates in a variety of other programs such as FIRST® robotics, Science Fairs, and National Science Olympiad to name a few.

Please share ways in which your company collaborates with state/local organizations or other companies around STEM learning.

DuPont employees are active in volunteerism through a range of partner programs.  These include, for example, FIRST Robotics programs, Odyssey of the Mind, the Junior FIRST Lego League, and the National Science Olympiad.

Within the communities in which we operate, DuPont participates in state/local organizations that support STEM education, including the Delaware Business STEM Council, State Governors Councils on STEM, Achieve, STEMConnector and the U.S. Conference of Mayors.
